For Jacqueline Cregg, RN, owner of South Shore Piercing in Norwell, Massachusetts, offering safe ear piercing isn't just a business - it brings together three roles that mean the most to her: nurse, school nurse, and mom to two girls.

And the idea for South Shore Piercing actually began in the school health office.

From School Nurse to Nurse Piercer

As a school nurse, Jacqueline had a front-row seat to many of the problems that can occur after an ear piercing.

She saw children coming into the health office with piercings that weren't healing properly, butterfly backs becoming embedded in the skin, reactions to jewelry containing nickel, soft tissue tears from dangling earrings, and piercings with poor or uneven placement.

As Jacqueline puts it:

“You name it, I've seen it."

Those experiences made her think differently about something many families view as a simple childhood milestone.

Like so many parents, Jacqueline grew up in the generation where getting your ears pierced often meant a trip to the mall. But when she became a mom herself, she knew she wanted something different for her own two daughters - a piercing experience centered around safety, proper technique, skin health, and aftercare.

That realization ultimately helped inspire South Shore Piercing.

A Nurse's Approach to Ear Piercing

Jacqueline brings an extensive medical background to every appointment. In addition to her experience as a school nurse, she spent 10 years working as a nurse at a major Boston hospital, where infection control and patient safety were part of everyday care.

Today, she brings those same principles to ear piercing.

For Jacqueline, the piercing itself is only one part of the experience. She wants parents and children to leave their appointment understanding exactly how to care for their new piercings and what to expect throughout the healing process.

“I have just as much investment in proper aftercare and healing as you do,” she explains.

Her goal is to give families the tools, tips, and information they need not only during their appointment, but throughout the healing journey.

That's something Jacqueline never loses sight of.

As both a nurse and a mom, she approaches each child with the same level of care she would want for her own daughters. She understands that parents aren't simply looking for beautiful earrings. They're trusting someone with their child's safety, comfort, and experience.
